Chinese citizens planning ReNu lawsuit

Eighty Chinese citizens are planning to file a ReNu lawsuit against Bausch & Lomb in the United States. According one of their ReNu lawyers, Hao Junbo, the group claims that using the company’s ReNu with MoistureLoc contact lens solution caused them to develop Fusarium keratitis symptoms. Fusarium keratitis is a potentially blinding fungal infection that has been linked with use of ReNu with MoistureLoc.

Singapore honors ReNu investigators

The Singapore Minister of Health has honored a team of doctors from that country who were the first to alert the public to the link between Bausch & Lomb’s ReNu with MoistureLoc contact lens solution and the fungal infection Fusarium keratitis. The doctors were given the Minister of Health Award for their vigilance and courage in taking on a multinational corporation.

MoistureLoc finally off Saudi shelves months after ReNu recall

Despite the worldwide ReNu recall issued by Bausch & Lomb in May, stores in Saudi Arabia are only now getting bottles of ReNu with MoistureLoc off of their shelves. The ReNu recall was issued after the contact lens solution was linked with more than 100 cases worldwide of the fungal eye infection Fusarium keratitis.

A Michigan woman has filed a lawsuit against Bausch & Lomb after her use of the company’s ReNu with MoistureLoc contact lens solution possibly caused a rare eye fungus known as Fusarium keratitis.

The story of how Bausch & Lomb mishandled its decisions along the way in the ReNu recall debacle is only now being understood. The company received a disturbing phone call from Dr. David Chu, a New Jersey ophthalmologist, on March 3. Three of his patients, it seemed, were afflicted with a microbe known to cause a potentially blinding infection—Fusarium keratitis.

FDA unable to trace source of ReNu infection cases

The Food and Drug Administration says that it has been unable to locate the source of an infection outbreak among contact lens users during its inspection of Bausch & Lomb’s Greenville, South Carolina plant. According to a preliminary statement concerning the inspections, the agency plans to conduct further testing in the hopes of locating the infection source.
