Proceedings in first ReNu lawsuits set for next week

Pretrial proceedings in the first set of ReNu lawsuits against Bausch & Lomb will begin next week in South Carolina. ReNu attorneys and their clients from 80 cases will meet to exchange information with lawyers from Bausch & Lomb. After the judge in the case oversees the exchange of all the requested information and documents, the cases will return to their own jurisdictions for trial. Most of the ReNu lawsuits are expected to go to trial within a year to 18 months.

Contact lens industry learning lessons of ReNu recall

Advanced Medical Optics Inc. has announced a recall for 3 million bottles of its Complete MoisturePlus contact lens solution. The company says that it found bacteria in three batches of solution made in its China factory. About 183,000 of the affected bottles had been sent to stores in the U.S.

Mounting evidence that Bausch & Lomb’s popular ReNu with MoistureLoc contact lens solution may cause the eye infection Fusarium keratitis in some users is having an effect on investors. Shares of the company dropped nearly 15% the day after it agreed to halt shipments of ReNu, and at least five analysts downgraded the stock.

Analyst predicts dim financial future for Bausch & Lomb after ReNu recall

Prudential analyst Larry Biegelsen predicts a bleak financial future for the company, which is based in Rochester, New York.

Texas teen suffers vision loss after using ReNu contact lens solution

Rey Canales, a 13-year-old boy from Alice, Texas, has suffered severe damage in both eyes after using Bausch & Lomb’s ReNu with MoistureLoc contact lens solution. His mother, Anita, says that the damage to her son’s vision left him unable to perform even the most ordinary household tasks. “He was like blinded, because we had to walk him to the restroom, we had to walk him to his room, and we had to walk him to the table to eat,” she said.
