ReNu lawsuit filed by Texas woman
Thursday, 06 December 2007
A Texas woman has filed a lawsuit against Bausch & Lomb, alleging that a contact lens solution manufactured by the company caused her to develop a severe eye infection. Nancie Drake alleges that the fungal infection she developed after using ReNu with MultiPlus caused her to lose sight in her eye, eventually forcing her to have the eye removed.

Bausch & Lomb issued a recall notice for some lot numbers of ReNu with MultiPlus in March. The MultiPlus ReNu recall was the second issued by the company over that previous year. In April 2006, Bausch & Lomb issued a ReNu recall for its ReNu with MoistureLoc contact lens solution after it was linked to an outbreak of a type of eye infection called Fusarium keratitis.

In her ReNu lawsuit, Drake alleges that ReNu with MultiPlus is a defective product. She says that if Bausch & Lomb had warned consumers about the potential health risks of the contact lens solution, it may have enabled doctors to treat her eye infection before they were forced to surgically remove the infected eye.

Drake’s ReNu lawsuit is the second that she has filed against Bausch & Lomb. Her original suit was dismissed without prejudice from a group of ReNu with MoistureLoc lawsuits. This allowed her to file her own ReNu lawsuit separately against Bausch & Lomb.
